Emily India's Story

My mission is to represent and inspire women from all walks of life, ages, cultures, personalities, and identities. I want to share the importance of being original through personal style, which this next beautiful lady showed me can be embraced by our culture.

Meet Emily, originally from Guadeloupe, who like me was inspired by her mother and her culture. Let's face it, in this day and age, we all need strong women to love and care for us through difficult times and not many receive the support and attention they need to get through life and look on the brighter side of life. Emily and I were lucky as through our mothers we were able to find our way of life early on.

Emily is from Guadeloupe and her inquisitive mind meant she went back to basics to look at her culture in detail, her roots to find her self. And this is what she had to say about her new found strength, outlook on life and conversations with herself and now to you, woman to woman...

I am still a young girl and so I have many goals that I aspire to achieve and if I encounter obstacles I learn to cross them as I want to be the best me I can be.

I am strongly inspired by my Guadeloupe origin and it's something that makes me feel good about myself. My hair is a big part of my Identity I embrace my culture through it. I feel most confident when wearing my hair out in volume and big curls, as that's just me in my culture, heart and soul.

My mother is my inspiration, I love her immensely and her characteristics of an inspiring down to earth woman is what I admire. I wish one day I will come close to the woman she is!

What is your #NoteToSelf and message to women, woman to woman?

"Embrace more of your culture unapologetically. And appreciate your natural beauty as it will make you feel proud and beautiful like our mothers did!"

From spending time with Emily, I learned we should embrace our cultural differences and not be afraid to learn about other cultures. Our parents worked hard to give us a better life and it's our duty to live on their legacy.
